Many Arches, UB City – Bangalore, India

In this third and last post about the other side of India, the affluent side, here are photographs from the mall at UB City. As you can see, it’s as fancy as any in the developed world. This first photo looks like something from Las Vegas. It has surprisingly upscale stores from world-renowned retailers. I don’t shop at these kind of places, but find them interesting, nevertheless; especially in India, where it breaks the stereotypes that people may have about this developing country.

There are a lot of entrepreneurs and IT professionals in Bangalore, and I’m sure this place caters to them. Or, at least, tempts them into working harder to achieve the perceived affluent life. I find it both interesting and sad, I suppose. Working hard and achieving one’s goals is always admirable but the endless pursuit of affluence and then showing off by buying exclusive goods is probably not a positive trend.

That said, we all have our baubles. Some more expensive than others. I’m guilty of having too many cameras, as you probably know. At least most of them (except a couple) are not from a luxury brand.

Here are more scenes from UB City. Does this look like India to you? Does it reorient your perspective?
