Winter Garden, Brookfield Place – New York, New York

The Winter Garden is probably the most dramatic feature of Brookfield Place. The 120-foot tall 10-story glass pavilion opened in 1988 as part of the World Financial Center and was heavily damaged during the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.

Rebuilt in 2002, the Winter Garden was the first significant structure to be restored following the attacks. Concerts, ballets, and even a circus performed among the 40ft tall Washingtonia Robusta palm trees.

While not as architecturally unique as the neighboring Oculus Center, the Winter Garden injects much-needed humanity and warmth into the development. It may be the only topical experience the average New Yorker gets during the cold winter.

  1. They are refurbishing the old Hawn hotel in Temple, Texas. They have even built a large parking garage next to it. Unfortunately, it will not be a hotel, it will be apartments.
