I wanted to combine the two most significant elements of the Ground Zero site. The 9/11 Memorial and the new colossus, the rebuilt One World Trade Center. However, I didn’t have a wide-angle capable of capturing them together. I hit upon an idea.
By shooting the reflection of the building within the memorial, the shimmering water created an abstract, impressionistic representation of One World Trade Center. Further enhanced by the monochrome conversion and rotating the frame 180 degrees — down became up.
Composed of sharp geometry and fuzzy abstraction, I like the effect. I’m considering making a heft print for the wall.
