I wasn’t in full street photography mode when I snapped this picture. I had just landed in a foreign country and still getting my bearings. Decidedly, this photo is sloppily framed. However, the smoker on the right makes the image and adds depth.
While this is a quick, walk-by snapshot, there are elements that I like, such as the grouping of the students and the background architecture. This scene is not the United States, which automatically adds exoticness for me.
I made yesterday’s cafe photo at about 50mm, a classic street photography focal length. This one is around 35mm, also a favorite on the street. Using a zoom lens for these kinds of photos is new for me — I prefer prime lenses. However, since I traveled to Paris with only one lens, I needed flexibility. I’m curious about what focal lengths I used most during this trip, something that I have yet to analyze.

I like see that you were warming up to working in street photography mode. Is this working from the hip or simply very fast?
Though this brings up the question, were you accosted/challenged by any of your subjects for making photos with out having their permission to do so?
France is a very different place from the US and most other countries, you need permission to photograph people on the street. Even if it is for personal use.

Hi PaulB, thanks for your continued interest with my posts. Luckily, I did not get challenged by anyone during our short trip. I simply shot very fast but did not try to be sneaky either.
FYI, I’ve done a considerable amount of street photography in various locations, through this was my first attempts in Paris. Here are my other street photography posts, some with an expansive view of this photographic genre.
