My first meal in Paris was decidedly pedestrian, and I’m not counting the croissant I ate for breakfast. You can tell I’m not the foodie in the family — that would be my younger sister.
My wife was fine eating a late lunch at the cafe at the Louvre. After all, we were optimizing for tourist sites on the first day. There were a few places to eat inside the museum, and we picked a fast and convenient one. The interior architecture was cut above a regular American establishment.
Yes, I had a cheeseburger because I’m American. Plus, I knew there were opportunities to eat something more exciting throughout the trip — this was only meal one on day one of a ten-day trip. The cheeseburger was tasty. Better than what I expected from a museum but not genuinely memorable — I was okay with that.
After eating and a short rest, my wife and I were ready to tackle the giant museum. We knew we wouldn’t see the whole thing, just the highlights.
Believe it or not, I’m not an art museum fan, which shows my uncultured roots. I’ve been to the Louvre once during high school, but we came primarily for my wife.
As you might have guessed, I love architecture and often enjoy a museum’s architecture more than its art collection. Yet, I will highlight some art pieces from the Louvre in the next series of posts.
