Architectural Alignment, Louvre – Paris, France

I’m finishing my Louvre coverage with a few black and white architecture/street photographs. Peering into my photo library, I don’t see much left of the Louvre. Of course, I selectively featured images — the highlights — as I toured the museum. And I didn’t take pictures of everything. That would have overwhelmed even me.

I no longer remember my exact path through the museum, but I saw a glimpse of the outside before slipping into one last statue-filled room. I like the architectural alignment of new and old framed within an archway.

We are looking across the central Cour Napoléon courtyard. In the center is the giant entry pyramid and a smaller skylight precisely framed to the old royal palace architecture. This post from a few weeks ago shows the relationships of the visual elements. I was standing near the archway of one of the older buildings looking toward the other side, though I forgot which building I was in. It was a long day, and my wife and I traveled extensively throughout the sprawling complex.
