Primary Colors, Paris Metro – Paris, France

We were still at the Charles de Gaulle – Étoile Metro station when I spotted another graphical scene — a woman in a striking red and blue outfit. Combine that with the green of the kiosks, and you form the red-green-blue primary colors.

You also get a commanding perspective of this old metro station, modernized in layers over the years. To the right, you see the seating that I featured yesterday. On the left, you see glass safety doors that only open after a train arrives. These modern additions are not universal. You don’t see them at the Solferino station, for example.

These additions enhance safety but are a visual detriment. The classic old Solferino looks so much more attractive and timeless. I suppose, ultimately, functionality trumps design, but wouldn’t it be ideal if you could have both?
