Visual Clutter around the Memorial

Arc de Triomphe – Paris, France

Did you guess our next tourist spot? It’s the Arc de Triomphe, which I’m sure you’ve seen in pictures. It’s a memorial that honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.

Located in the middle of a massive traffic circle, it’s an impressive site with a healthy amount of visual clutter surrounding it. Getting off the Metro, a wall of tourists viewed it from across the street.

Near the curb, all manner of cars circled and weaved their way around the monument. It takes more driving skill and courage than I’m used to. Luckily, I was just a pedestrian. When I first visited Paris in high school, I remember being in a car that navigated this traffic circle. People in the U.S. don’t do traffic circles, except those in New Jersey.

I saw some adventurous soles crossing the street. We opted for a smarter and safer route via an underground tunnel, which popped us right up near the remarkable structure.
