I didn’t do much street photography in Las Vegas, concentrating instead on interior and exterior architecture as well as snapshots of my high school friends. Still, I did shoot a few on the street. My subject of choice was faux showgirls.
During my walks on the Strip, I noticed several pairs of women dressed up as showgirls. They weren’t authentic showgirls but used the opportunity to take pictures with tourists for money. Hence, they weren’t amenable to street portraits for free.
This picture was my first snap of them before I decided to gamify my attempted photo capture of these elusive creatures. While just a photograph from the back, I like how people on the street frame it. It has that organic and classic street photo aesthetic.
I then switch tactics to shoot from the hip, keeping my camera low and aiming towards oncoming subjects. The framing is imperfect and a very hit-or-miss proposition. Sometimes, they come out great, like the first picture, but sometimes not like the photo above.
I only made a few attempts at photographing this subject, opting to concentrate more on architecture. However, these last two pictures worked the best regarding technique, managing two shots. I shot all at a 24mm equivalent, so I needed to get close. A 35mm or 50mm would’ve been easier. Still, it was fun trying this street photography technique.
Compositionally, I like the first picture because of its precise symmetric framing, but the last two pictures with delicate feathers are also enticing.

The Elvis impersonators had to be tempting as well. There is usually at least one on most corners of the Strip. When you back to Vegas, try walking around Downtown under the Vegas Experience canopy. There are usually a lot of “impersonators” there. Just don’t go alone, you really want someone to watch your back (literally). As this area has been pretty sketchy.

Good to know, thank you for the suggestion. I didn’t make it to downtown on this trip. Perhaps the next one.
