Our second stop in our day-long excursion was to a sign — a famous one by Las Vegas standards. This stop made me happy since I always wanted to take a picture of it, but it seemed out of reach without a car. In retrospect, it doesn’t seem that far south of Mandalay Bay, the southernmost large hotel on the strip. However, I don’t think the area is particularly safe.
There are a few Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas signs, including small designs on gift shop storefronts, but this one was the original erected in 1959. Over the years, this local landmark was upgraded with landscaping and parking spaces. It’s even on the Nevada and National Register of Historical Places.
We got the bus driver to take a picture of our high school group by the sign, which I printed out large — a wonderful memento of our enjoyable trip.
