Bergstation is the last stop of the Gornergrat-Bahn, located in Gornergrat at an elevation of 10,135 feet. The train ride takes about 30 minutes, and there are usually 23 trains per day making this run.
This point may be the highest outside that I’ve ever been — this excludes planes, of course. As tall as 10,000 feet seems, it still looks modest compared to the Matterhorn in the distance. That mountain rises majestically to 14,692 feet.
I’ve mentioned that seeing the Matterhorn was on my mother’s bucket list and was why we came to Switzerland. We took a bunch of snapshots to commemorate our good fortune.
