Double Metro Motion Blur – Paris, France

I’m using Paris Metro photo posts as a visual transition in tourist locations. My wife and I spent the afternoon gawking at the Opéra Garnier and the nearby upscale department stores. Now, we were moving again to our final destination of the day.

This particular metro photo turned out better than expected. With the action happening fast, it’s not always certain how it will turn out. I set my shutter speed to 1/15 second, which is adequate to produce a satisfying blur of fast incoming trains.

I got an unexpected bonus: a double-motion blur of trains coming in from both directions. The composition balance worked well, too, with a woman positioned perfectly on the left-side platform. A fun detail is a person on the other side of the platform perfectly centered between the trains. This was all luck, of course, but it works to add that extra visual interest.
