Petit Palais – Paris, France

It must be challenging to be a building in Paris, a city unbelievably packed with gorgeous, ornate architecture. Luckily, buildings don’t have feelings. Of course, their owners do. I wonder if they compete to stand out from the crowd somehow.

Take the Petit Palais, which means small palace. This “small” structure was built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle and now houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts. In any other city, it would be the architectural centerpiece. In Paris, it’s just another slightly fancy building. It’s located across the street from the Grand Palais.

The Petit Palais was not our destination. It was one of many structures that caught my eye on the way to something else. I’m sure the building and its collection are worth a day or more of exploration. But that would have to wait for some future visit. We were too busy hitting the most notable tourist highlights first. I can see why people make multiple visits to Paris. There’s just too much to see and photograph.
