Following up on yesterday’s post, I have an example where there wasn’t enough compression, creating a weak composition.
I stood in the same spot as yesterday on the side of US-500 with my Fuji X-E3 in hand. The only difference was the attached lens, the Fujifilm 15-45mm, a decent enough kit lens with a 22.5mm to 67.5mm full frame equivalent. I zoomed to the maximum 67.5mm equivalent and shot this scene.
It’s a nice enough snapshot, but the image has a few weaknesses. I don’t like the angle of the road, and there’s not much visual interest in the foreground. There may be other angles to explore, but I wasn’t about to risk my life maneuvering around a road with fast-moving cars.
Switching lenses to the Fuji 55-200mm gave me options that enabled yesterday’s image. Using a 192mm equivalent allowed me to zoom into the most essential details, the colorful trees and the mountains beyond. The telephoto also created the compression that stacked both elements together.
