Beaumont Hotel – Ouray, Colorado

Beyond the lovely landscapes surrounding Ouray, Colorado, I noticed the small town had some substantial buildings. I’m featuring some in this mini-series, starting with the Beaumont Hotel, built in 1886.

Reading up on Ouray, I was shocked at how small it is. Telluride’s official population, without the tourists, is 2,500, while Ouray’s is 1,000. In fact, other than the main road, US 550, many of the streets in town are unpaved. I think this is one of the few towns in the United States I’ve visited that did not have fully paved roads.

I shot the Beaumont with the Fujifilm GFX 50R perspective correct in post-processing. I don’t remember seeing a comparably substantial old hotel building in Telluride, so having the Beaumont in Ouray is even more impressive. Looking at their website, they seem to offer old-word charm in an upscale setting.
