In addition to the walking paths along both sides of the river, the San Antonio River Walk has pedestrian bridges connecting the banks. Yesterday’s kayak post shows an example of one. I used a bridge as a vantage point in today’s perspective.
There is an unexpected lushness along the river, as seen with the trees. It’s certainly not the dry desert that people think of outside of Texas. Coupled with the hotels and bars along the tourist corridor, the River Walk is a visually detailed and attractive place. It also feels authentic in a way Disneyland doesn’t.
At 8 a.m., the River Walk is remarkably peaceful—a side I’ve never seen before. In a couple of hours, the small sidewalks will be packed all night.
