I searched nearly 4,000 blog posts since 2010, and I can’t believe I haven’t posted a picture of the Alamo, possibly the most famous tourist site in Texas. I’ve shot many pictures nearby and made references to the structure. Perhaps I ignored it because it was too famous. The pivotal Battle of the Alamo was fought in 1836 as part of the Texas Revolution.
My initial reaction, and I think most people’s reaction upon seeing the Alamo, is surprised at how small it is. The structure has such an outsized history that many, including myself, imagined a grander structure. But here it is at night, lit up in a plain yellow light, which I decided to turn into a black-and-white image.
The Alamo, originally Mission San Antonio de Valero, is one of five missions created by the Spanish to settle this area. It’s part of the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site, as is Mission Concepcion, which I featured a few days ago.
