LAX Admiral’s Club – Los Angeles, California

I found more circular architectural designs in LAX Terminal 5, this time in the American Airlines Admiral’s Club. We had a longer-than-usual layover at LAX during our flight to Hawaii, so I decided to cash in some miles for a one-day visit to their club.

This is the first large seating area after entering the club. I made several exposures to balance the ceiling design and the seating. It can be tricky to frame a fisheye lens’s super-wide and distorted perspective. I was mostly successful, though not perfectly centered. Given that I cropped out the vignetted areas, there isn’t much leeway to correct the framing in post-processing.

The second picture shows the food and bar area. Using a fisheye in a regular boxy room produces crazier results that look unnatural. The fisheye harmonizes better with a circular design. This area served as a connecter between the first seating area and the other one by the windows.

I discovered one more large seating area with a wide bank of windows and views out to the airport. This room also sported a lit circular design, though not as dramatic. It combines a circular design with a rectangular one towards the windows. Since the distortion is reduced the further away from the lens, the area near the windows looks comparatively normal.
