Circular Ala Moana – Honolulu, Hawaii

Los Angeles has a few palm trees, but not like this. I made it to Honolulu, and after a short rest, we headed for Ala Moana, the giant shopping mall between Waikiki Beach and downtown.

Ala Moana is an outdoor shopping mall on multiple levels. At the junction points, at major intersections of shopping wings, there are open spaces. I got in the middle, shot upwards with the fisheye, and captured the ring of shopping mall structures. The fisheye distortion bent the structure around the periphery, and I love how the palm trees reach toward the center.

The shot wouldn’t have been as dramatic without the bright sun and fair weather clouds. In this series, you will see many examples of me taking pictures looking up—certainly more than usual.
