The word village conjures up some old-timey quaint cottages built around a square in England. Ward Village in Honolulu couldn’t be any more different. I realize the name was picked to create a comfortable, homey place—marketing in action. Not that Ward Village is a bad place. It certainly looks ambitious and upscale. I even blogged about its architecture several years ago.
Today’s picture shows the towering condos in context as the development proceeds. When I took this picture in 2022, some four towers were completed, or near completion, and more were on the way. You can see the cranes on the right, with a new one beginning to sprout up.
The development is so large that you need a fisheye to get all the high-rise towers in view. While I didn’t visit it in 2025, I noticed a few more new towers have sprung up over the last three years. Combined with the high-rises in Kaka’ako, there will be a vast stretch of towers west of Ala Moana Mall over the next decade.
