Asian Temple and Banyan Tree – Honolulu, Hawaii

We are still inside the Hilton Hawaiian Village, near a shopping area next to Rainbow Drive. The shops have an Asian architectural motif that unifies them. I don’t know if this is designed to be a temple, but I’m calling it that out of convenience.

The architecture is confusing, and I call it Asian because it’s not exactly Japanese, but it’s not Chinese, either. Next door, there is a large Torii Gate that seems to point to a Japanese origin. However, I’ve never seen buildings that look like this in Japan. I’m sure the developers at the Hilton weren’t worried about authenticity.

Combined with the massive banyan tree, the branches and the long corridor wrap around the viewer due to the fisheye lens. The color and muted light create a magical feeling.
