Tamarind Park, Downtown – Honolulu, Hawaii

I walked around downtown Honolulu and snapped pictures like I usually do not keeping track of where I was or what landmarks I might have captured. I selected this photo for inclusion in the blog but had no idea of its location or the sculpture’s name.

My usual Google Maps and Street View techniques didn’t work since I mostly shot upwards and didn’t have enough pictures to create a visual trail. Enter Chat GPT and Google to get the list of sculptures in downtown Honolulu. Within a couple of minutes, I discovered this was Tamarind Park. The sculpture is Upright Motive No. 9 by Henry Moore. I’m far from an art aficionado, but I thought the sculpture looked Moore-like.

Photographically, the sculpture adds a lovely foreground element to complement the elaborate and distorted background. Maybe I’ve been posting too many fisheyes in this series. This picture almost looks normal, and the distortion is beautiful as it wraps around the sculpture.
