Beach Volleyball, Waikiki Beach – Honolulu, Hawaii

I’ve shown you many photographs of Honolulu, but surprisingly few from the beach, which is a notable aspect of the city. I was on Waikiki Beach, near the Hilton Hawaiian Village, when I snapped this picture.

You may be surprised that this is a fisheye photograph, like all the pictures in this series, taken with the same Fujifilm GFX 50S II and TTartisan lens. The lack of lines closeup makes the fisheye distortion hard to see.

Look closely, however, and you can detect subtle signs. The horizon line has a slight bow. And the pattern of footsteps seems to form, ever so slightly, a curved pattern. It isn’t easy to see unless you look closely. However, I wasn’t interested in the fisheye gimmickry. Instead, I like the minimal, centered volleyball game with the beautiful cloud pattern.
