Waikiki Beach from the Sheraton – Honolulu, Hawaii

I’m nearing the end of this fisheye series from Hawaii and wanted one more scenic beach and ocean scene. Though, as you can see, there isn’t much beach left in this part of Waikiki.

A note on this area of Waikiki: I’m unsure if this walking path is still open in 2025. I shot this in 2022, but the water was rapidly reclaiming the beach near this walkway in front of the Sheraton. As I recall from my visit last year, there was a detour through the Sheraton’s pool area, and this walkway may now be closed—at least until they do a beach reclamation. However, the erosion is considerable and is probably a losing battle.

Throughout this series, I’ve shown you mild and extreme versions of fisheye photos. This one appears relatively mild due to the subject and how I framed the scene. Even the bending palm trees don’t look out of place. The up-close fencing is also bent, but not in a crazy way. These three photos show the perspective as I moved west, away from the world-famous Diamond Head mountain in the distance.

The second photo also appears to be a relatively mild fisheye, but the third image reveals that crazy bending distortion. I’ve provided you with plenty of examples of how you can somewhat control the fisheye effect, depending on the subject and framing. However, I aimed for maximum fun and distortion in most of the pictures in this series. I hope you enjoyed them.
