We are looking north on N Main Street in downtown Taylor, Texas, just a couple of stores away from yesterday’s post of the now closed Taylor Cafe. Although many of the buildings are underutilized, they have handsome facades.
I’m using a modest telephoto, 70mm on the Fuji GFX, but equivalent to 55mm on full frame, to create compression. This has the effect of pulling the facades closer together and minimizing the distance to the next block.
Notice the painted Woodsman sign next to the telephone pole? That corner forms an alleyway facing west, which can be seen below. The picture below is at 35mm, which has a 28mm full-frame equivalent. Although the focal length is half of the first picture, both images have a similar composition, creating a surprising uniformity. I would’ve thought the two would feel very different. Of course, the facades are on opposite sides, forming a sort of visual bookend.
