Citizens National Bank at night – Taylor, Texas

We’re back on Main Street in downtown Taylor, Texas, featuring a building you might recognize. More than two weeks ago, at the start of this series, I posted this blog entry. It’s the same building shot earlier in the day, when the sun was setting and casting a warm glow on the second floor.

Two hours separate the two images. The framing is surprisingly similar. I used the 35-70mm zoom, which creates a 27.65 to 55.3mm equivalent perspective. Since the medium format sensor is larger than the full-frame sensor, there is a 0.79 crop factor. In the daylight, I used a 33.65mm equivalent focal length, while this nighttime picture is at 36.1mm.

Beyond the focal length, there’s also a slight difference in how I framed the shot. Regardless of the modest difference, the feeling and approach to the image remain the same. I generally prefer night photos of the city, but the Citizens National Bank sign is lit up rather blandly. The warm light on the red bricks creates a compelling image in late afternoon. Which do you prefer?
