If there’s one iconic building that represents Singapore, this may be it: the Marina Bay Sands hotel and casino, located across from the central business district. Although it’s well-known, it’s a relatively new addition, having opened in 2010. I have many views of this building on this blog from my three business trips to Singapore.
This trip in 2023 with my mother was the first time I had visited there for pleasure. My mom was 86 two years ago, and I figure we should get a hotel with a prime spot on the bay. I considered Marina Bay, but it didn’t have the room features we were looking for. Additionally, the complex is so large that it feels like being in an airport.
The afternoon when we arrived was gray and uninspiring, and I generally prefer shooting urban landscapes at night. But I wanted to document the icon on our first walk around the bay. Even shooting with the Fujifilm GFX 50S II didn’t bring any colorful inspiration. A post-processed conversion to black and white added more visual punch.
