Ngee Ann City - Singapore

Ngee Ann City – Singapore

After breakfast, my mother and I headed to Orchard Road, an upscale shopping district about 2 1/2 miles northwest of the hotel. My mom dislikes shopping in general, so I forgot why we went. I think we were looking for something that we didn’t end up finding. At least she got to see the glitzy brand-conscious segment of Singapore.

We started at Ngee Ann City, commonly known as Takashimaya Shopping Centre, which is named after its anchor tenant. The shopping mall was shiny and adorned with marble, housing numerous high-end stores. We didn’t stop at any boutiques and simply walked through to get a feel for the place. It was also a welcome respite from Singapore’s hot and humid weather.

Many of the upscale retailers are part of giant shopping malls that line Orchard Road. I shot the neighborhood as we walked to another mall, allowing me to quickly document the area. During my past visits, I didn’t see much of this neighborhood during the day, as I was working regular business hours.
