Here is the view of the Singapore central business district skyline from atop the Marina Bay Sands hotel. As I explained yesterday, we were there during a particularly smoky stretch with agricultural fires blowing in from neighboring countries. The color version didn’t look particularly great, while the black and white conversion improved the image somewhat.
The top of the Marina Bay Sands is at 676 feet, while the tallest towers in the skyline are about 950 feet. So some of those buildings should appear taller, but they don’t. It’s an optical illusion created by the distance between the buildings. Also, the hotel is built on higher ground than the skyscrapers of the central business district.
The large, low-slung building on the right, set back one street from the bay, is The Fullerton Hotel, where we were staying. This view of the Marina Bay Sands is sort of a reverse view of what we see here. I shot that picture from in front of skyscrapers near the bay.
