I returned to The Fullerton Hotel conveniently with a tripod in hand after having created long exposures along the bay. Being later at night with very few people in the lobby, it was a perfect time to make high-quality images of the most dramatic feature in the lobby. I featured a lobby picture early in this series. However, you’ll agree this architecture is more dramatic.
For some reason, these pictures remind me of the kind you see in Architectural Digest, particularly from the 1990s. The Fullerton is still a lovely, well-maintained, and upscale hotel. However, after looking at these pictures, it seems a bit dated. Is it the marble earth tones and the shiny brass? It seems to me that the newer hotels have a more organic look these days.
I reveled in the symmetrical staircase design for the first photo. The image below provides a better perspective of the staircase in relation to the rest of the lobby. There is a mesmerizing swirl of Koi in the pond, almost like they are feeding on something. Though there is nobody around to feed them. Strange but true.
