A Last Look at the Fullerton

The Fullerton Hotel - Singapore

The Fullerton Hotel – Singapore

I got back from my rather disappointing experience at the Night Safari, which I talked about in the previous post. It was early enough to do one last walk in the neighborhood at night. All of my urban landscapes thus far were with the Sony 24mm f2.8. I still had the Sigma 85mm f1.4 attached from the safari and decided to use that for a change in perspective.

An 85mm is not a typical urban landscape lens. Still, it creates a telephoto compression and works well for picking out details. It offers different compositional opportunities from a wide-angle lens.

I was up close on the details of the hotel in the first photograph. In the second image, I compressed different architectural elements together, such as the foreground bridge, the hotel, and a distant skyline. Nothing earth-shattering, but they offer a distinct look and train the brain to see compositions differently.
