We took a van from the airport to our destination in central Havana. The distance was about 15 miles, taking about 45 minutes. I was positioned at the window, shooting images with the Sony A7C and the Samyang 35mm f2.8. The compact setup worked well as I snapped anything that looked moderately interesting.
While these scenes might look ordinary to a Cuban, as a foreigner on a first-time visit, I found them interesting. Clearly modern in design but significantly worn, the pops of color added a tropical flair. The country is not affluent; however, there was a vibrancy that filled me with excitement.
The countryside gave way to increasing density as we neared the city. That’s when I made the really fascinating architectural discoveries. I’ll show you some of that in tomorrow’s post.
