Old-Fashioned Bookstore – Havana, Cuba

We are losing places like this more and more. Amazon surely had an impact, as well as the chain bookstores, but even local ones, at least in Austin, are supersized. There’s something retro and old-fashioned about a smaller retail establishment packed with old books and magazines.

The entire group stepped inside and looked around for several minutes. Most of the books appeared to be in Spanish, understandably, so I didn’t spend much time looking. But an English store equivalent would suck down oodles of time. Note, however, the posters, especially of Castro and other revolutionaries. That’s something you won’t see in the U.S.

One of the participants took a keen interest, spending extra time, and she even bought something. You can see her in blue at the back of the store talking to the shop owner.
