I featured a picture of an interaction at a marketplace a couple of days ago, but this one is different. While that picture was in an indoor market, this one is right on the street with a limited number of products. It’s a way for this guy to make a living, and it’s convenient for the shoppers. You don’t see this in the United States, where most food is bought in large chainstore supermarkets.
Cuba is still a communist country, but this interaction shows a bit of individual capitalism. I’m guessing the government is not controlling the transition of every street merchant.
I looked it up, and Cuba is slowly adding market-based reforms to encourage private enterprise. It appears to be a slow process, but I wish them the best.
