After a morning of model shoots, we headed for lunch at a nearby nice hotel. The Iberostar is one of the 5-star hotels on the Parque Central. While clearly more modern with updated amenities than most places, I would hardly call it 5-Star by U.S. standards. However, it was clean, bright, modern, and most importantly, air-conditioned. The model shoot at the museum was fun, but it was incredibly hot and humid.
I ordered a Cuban Sandwich for lunch, which was actually invented in Ybor City in Tampa, Florida. I was there a few days before flying to Havana. But I didn’t get a sandwich. The actual meal was okay. The instructor warned that the Cuban Sandwiches in the U.S. are better. On a subsequent visit, I got a cheeseburger, which was actually pretty good.
Not only did we have air conditioning and some decent food, but we had some unexpected dancing. The couple appeared to be visiting, got up, and started moving to the music. This is the second time I have experienced this in Cuba. Many of the people appear free-spirited and enjoy the small pleasures of life.
