Continuing with yesterday’s post, after a couple of hours at The Ginger Man, we did a short photowalk, in the brisk night air. We ended up at Fado, an Irish Pub, one block north. Samantha joined our Drink and Click gathering shortly after.
In contrast to yesterday’s portrait of Chrystan, today’s is a quite different. I shot both with the same setup, The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II and the Olympus 75mm f1.8 lens. Color vs. black and white is an obvious change. But the lighting is also distinct. Chrystan had flat and even lighting, giving a subtle, low contrast look. Samantha — harsher and edgier with greater contrast.
The second photo adds more moodiness and mystery with the surrounding shadows. I was contemplating which photo to lede with, but opted for the lighter, cheerier look, which seems to match better on the home page.
I like both portraits for different reasons. Which do you prefer?
