This perfect little building sits elegantly in the middle of a new but texturally compatible development in the Pearl District in San Antonio. While this building may not command as much attention as the multi-story brewery turned hotel, I like it better. It has perfect symmetry and a lovely understated look, with a touch of ornamentation. It’s the kind of structure that they don’t build these days.
I’m not necessarily nostalgic for the days past. There are a lot of things that are better now. But I do like great design. I find most modern buildings are just cheap or they have lost the art of proportion. Some are just wacky for the sake of being different.
Cured is a charcuterie restaurant, specializing in cured meats. Peaking inside, I saw large slabs of cured meats hanging in a display cooler. The building was originally the Pearl Brewery’s Administration Building.
