Part of what I like so much about the Pearl District in San Antonio is the mix of old industrial and new development. The centerpiece is the ornate brewery transformed into a hotel. But there are other old peripheral buildings on site. The new development, with its brick texture, blends harmoniously with the old.
I shot more of the Pearl on my visit last week. It’s the third time I’ve been there within the year. My quick strolls through the area with my family, limit my photography, so I’ll need to spend more time there by myself. With my older son going to Trinity University just a few miles away, something tells me that I’ll have plenty of opportunity.
I was attracted to the mix of textures, colors and shapes in this slice of the Pearl. The balance of old and new. The industrial black grating and the classic pale red bricks. These aren’t details you find in modern places.
