You get a real feel of the clutter and cacophony that is the ROT Rally on 6th Street. This photo, however, with a shallower depth of field, slightly tames the busy background.
Managing the clutter and simplifying is always a good technique in photography but it’s something that I find challenging in events like this. Beyond the depth of field tricks, I think this golden Harley is a strong enough subject to dominate the image.
The photo looks decent in black and white but the golden color makes the bike stand out. Of course, if I were really gimmicky, I could have made everything black and white except for the gold. I’ve played with selected color on rare occasions but I try to avoid it in general.
