Red Flags, Daisho-in – Miyajima, Japan

This is the view from near the top of Daisho-in, the hillside Buddhist temple in Miyajima. Taking multiple flights of stone stairs affords a nice view all the way to the ocean and the distant mountains.

I featured a gritty black and white staircase with prayer wheels several days ago. This one attracts with bright red flags and of course, best seen in color. I used the same Olympus PEN-F and 9-18mm lens.

On Miyajima, there was a lot more to see beyond Daisho-in and Itsukushima shrine, but I was limited by time. I needed to get back downtown for the other major tourist attraction in Hiroshima. With a short tourist schedule, being selective is key. I think I got a good feel for the place, however. Perhaps in the future, with more time, I’ll even stay overnight on the island for a comprehensive visit.
