About a month ago, I was on an airplane headed off to Honolulu with my family, for our big summer vacation. Of course, for me, it’s always an opportunity for photography. Packing clothes is easy. The challenge is to figure out which cameras to bring.
For my Hawaii trips, it’s always a given that I take the Olympus TG-2, my waterproof, beach-proof camera. My high quality travel camera is naturally the Olympus micro 4/3 system, with a few lenses. Two years ago, I also brought the Panasonic ZS50, which I nicknamed the Photo Sketchbook — a compact super zoom with a 24mm to 720mm equivalent range.
For this year’s trip, I brought the Canon G7X Mark II, instead of the Panasonic. I lose the zoom range but gain much higher image quality and the opportunity to create my wide-angle Cinematics. I shot the Cinematic above on United, somewhere between Austin and Los Angeles.
