In addition to the night scenes and sports that I photographed at Trinity University with my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II, I also brought my compact Canon G7X Mark II. This small Canon compact, with its take anywhere size, has become an excellent secondary camera and sometimes even the primary. As I walked around campus during the Fall Family Weekend, I would whip out the camera and take some shots. I suppose I use it like many people use their smartphone cameras.

Today’s Photo Essay is a good counterpoint to a Photo Essay that I posted over a year ago, “Trinity University in Monochrome”. I shot those with the Olympus PEN-F and the 9-18mm wide-angle lens. And, even though I shot most of those photos at a 18mm equivalent, today’s Cinematics seem wider, even when at a 24mm equivalent. Much of that is due to the 4×3 vs 16×9 crop factor differences.

The campus was recently designated as a National Historic District for their large collection of mid-century modern buildings. There’s an incredible consistency throughout with the use of the same red brick. The mid-centry style, as seen in the flat horizontal look in the first photo, is not used in the modern buildings. However, the use of the red brick unifies the campus design. I prefer it that way, giving variety to the buildings but with harmony.
