Apparently, Austin is one of the most popular places in the U.S. for Bachelorette Parties. I was surprised to hear this. Perhaps it’s my bias against a place I’m familiar with. I figure there are a lot more interesting places to go in the United States. Austin doesn’t have many tourist sites, for example. But it does have a lot of bars, a growing restaurant scene and it’s the self-proclaimed “Live Music Capital of the World”.
That’s probably the point. I get the feeling that bars are more important than tourism. In retrospect, I’ve seen an increase of similarly dressed women going around in packs, particularly around East 6th Street. Frequently, these parties coordinate on a dress theme. The bachelorette in question often sports a tiara or a sign draped over the clothes like in those beauty contests. Hard to tell who the bachelorette is in this photograph, which I took on Congress Avenue.
Today’s is the last of a dozen photos in this series that I shot on the same photowalk. All with the same camera and one prime lens, a 50mm equivalent, which is versatile as you can see. From portraits to street photography and to architecture, it’s a fine setup for traveling light and for training your photographic eye.
