Yesterday’s photo featured a modest motion blur from a water taxi as a side element to the downtown skyscrapers. Today’s motion blur is grander and takes center stage with the famous Marina Bay Sands as the backdrop. The dark conditions have rendered the blur as stylistic streaks of red and yellow. In fact, without context or an explanation, some my believe these streaks as a lighting feature of the bay.
Motion blurs are created by a slow shutter. Yesterday’s was short because the shutter was only open for 5 seconds. Today’s was four times longer at 20 seconds. Just a little longer and the boat would have traversed the entire frame. However, in some ways, I prefer these nearly complete lines — they seem more dynamic.
I also like how the red and yellow from the boat contrast against the cool blue and gold of the architecture. It’s a rather futuristic-looking scene.
