Do you notice anything strange about this subway car? Where are the seats? Other than a couple of pairs at the end, there are no seats in the middle.
I don’t recall ever being in a subway like this. Or if I have, I’ve long forgotten it since it was over forty years ago.
This subway is the S train. S for Shuttle, I believe — a unique short-distance line starting at Times Square and ending at Grand Central with no in-between stops. It runs parallel to Number 7, which travels this distance with an extra stop at 5th Avenue.
It was the fastest route to travel to my next destination.
