A Neighborhood with an Elevated Park -- Paris, France

A Neighborhood with an Elevated Park — Paris, France

After enjoying our croissants, we headed to our first tourist stop — a place probably unfamiliar to most visitors. I read about it during my research, not of Paris, but of New York City. My subsequent posts will clarify this connection.

I’ve really enjoyed the architecture and streetscape of Paris, and this photo is a good example. Notice the buildings’ height and the street’s width — they are in proportion to each other. The street is not too wide, making it easy to cross. The buildings are human-scaled and not imposing. Also, the building height is consistent, and while the facade changes, there is a continuous rhythm between the structures. Great streetscapes like these make you feel like you are in an outdoor room. Protected on each side but not overwhelmed.

The arch and bridge in the center hint at the next post — an elevated park.
