A Couple on Pont Neuf – Paris, France

I mentioned Pont Neuf in yesterday’s post, Paris’ oldest existing bridge across the Seine River. My wife and I used it to cross from the island of Île de la Cité to the north side on the way to our next destination.

Shooting at an 82mm equivalent, I created a bit of telephoto compression to capture the bridge and reduce the space between the lampposts and the buildings on the other side. Effectively, I made the bridge look shorter.

The photo is partially architectural and has a street photography element, especially with the isolated couple in the middle of the bridge. The comparably long focal length is more telephoto than my traditional street photography setting — I usually opt between 24 to 50mm. However, there’s no rule against using longer focal lengths for street photography.
