I have one more photograph from the Las Vegas City Center, slightly south of yesterday’s picture, captured near the elevated pedestrian walkway. It’s a cleaner composition without the messiness of the nine-lane freeway-like driveway.
Again, we see the Aria Hotel in the center with the two Veer Condominiums on the right. To the left, we see a sliver of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Incidentally, the leftward tilt of the Veer Tower is not some optical illusion or substandard perspective correction. The tower does actually tilt.
The unexpected visual I captured is the green color of all the buildings. The buildings in the City Center complex must be linked so that the facade’s color can be synchronized. Just minutes earlier, each building had its unique colors.
Emerald City is, of course, a reference to the classic Wizard of Oz. Is Vegas and City Center just smoke and mirrors? Perhaps. But who and where is the wizard?
