David Replica, Caesars Palace – Las Vegas, Nevada

A member of our Las Vegas Strip tour party knew much more about Caesars Palace than I did. After shooting the Three Graces statues at the entrance, we searched for two more. First up, David, a replica, of course, of the famous one in Italy. We found him under an oculus, surrounded by stores.

A plaque mentioned that this is an exact replica standing 18 feet high and weighing over nine tons, using the same Italian marble as the original. There are many replicas of David around the world, as listed in this article on Wikipedia. I remember seeing David in Italy in the late 1980s in front of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. I didn’t know that Italian David was also a replica erected in the exact location as the original, which is on display at the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze museum.

This David at Caesars had unflattering lighting that cast a yellowish color on the part of the statue. A black-and-white conversion in post took care of that problem.
