It was the beginning of day five in Las Vegas, and I was meeting my high school friends downstairs at the start of the day. I noticed a few folks decked out in full Battlestar Galactica garb sitting in the cafe.
I’m not an over-the-top fan, but I fondly remember the original series from 1978, watching every episode on TV. I enjoyed the 2004-2009 remake even more, but these folks are rocking the style of the original series.
We chatted about the show, enough to prove that I knew something about it, then asked if I could make a portrait. They were happy to oblige and called a couple more of their buddies to join. It’s an impressive collection of vintage outfits. I didn’t ask if they were attending a cosplay event, and I didn’t see any others — this is Vegas, after all, so I didn’t question any oddities.
Incidentally, this occurred in the lobby of the Luxor, a giant Egyptian-themed hotel. Battlestar Galactica’s story arc connects to Egypt, the pyramids, and the pharaohs. Was it a coincidence that they met at the Luxor? Perhaps not.
